Tidbits 6/30/2019

A few items in this Tidbits. New AKC trials in the Panhandle, new implementation dates for Preferred/Regular and different jump heights at the same trial, and a new potential agility site for large events.

For those of you in the Panhandle, the Greater Panama City Dog Fanciers’ Association has scheduled two sets of AKC trials at the Baker arena. Note, thus far they are only on the trial secretary’s web site. They are April 24-26, 2020 and October 9-11, 2020. They had an A-Match last year in conjunction with an ORKC Fall trial. The Baker Arena is located in Baker, Florida. click for more site info: Baker - Baker Area Recreation Association (Baker Arena) The arena has been in use by the FL Pan-Handlers ASC for their ASCA agility trials.

The implementation dates for allowing a dog to be entered in Regular and Preferred at the same trial or in different jump heights at the same trial has been pushed from October 1 to January 1, 2020. A separate entry form is required for Regular/Preferred or each jump height.

Imagine a potential agility site with 4 Climate-Controlled 262’ x 550‘ Indoor Arenas, 160 RV spaces, hotel, restaurants, large and small animal vet clinic and more! Coming in 2021 to Ocala: https://worldequestriancenter.com/locations/ocala-florida/ This generated the most buzz that I have ever received on Facebook. It could possibly be used for National events like the AKC NAC or maybe DACOF. One of the facebook comments indicated that the 2020 Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty will be held there in October 2020. It will probably too expensive for local clubs to use. However, a venue with so many facilities is like a hotel. If a facility (room, arena) that is not being rented, it is not making any money. Basic economics says if you can cover your operational costs you rent so you have a chance of covering some of your fixed costs. Also if an event is not being held, that means fewer patrons for the other onsite facilities.
